Ocean’s Delight Tuna Tartare Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams (8.8 oz) of sushi-grade tuna, finely diced
  • 1 ripe avocado, finely diced
  • 1 small cucumber, finely diced (seeds removed)
  • 1 small shallot, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon capers, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon honey or agave syrup
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh cilantro (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Microgreens or sprouts, for garnish (optional)
  • Wonton or tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Tuna: Ensure your tuna is very cold, this makes it easier to dice. Dice the tuna into small, even pieces and place it in a large mixing bowl.

  2. Prep the Veggies: Finely dice the avocado, cucumber, and shallot. Add them to the bowl with the tuna. Chop the capers and add them to the mixture as well.

  3. Make the Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, lime juice, rice vinegar, honey or agave syrup, grated ginger, and minced garlic until well combined.

  4. Combine Ingredients: Pour the dressing over the tuna mixture. Gently fold everything together to ensure all ingredients are evenly coated.

  5. Season and Rest: Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. If using, stir in the chopped cilantro and chives. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

  6. Assemble and Serve: When ready to serve, taste the tartare one last time and adjust seasoning if necessary. Use a ring mold to help shape the tartare into neat cylinders on individual plates, or simply spoon it onto the plates.

  7. Garnish: Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top and garnish with microgreens or sprouts if using.

  8. Serve: Serve the tuna tartare immediately with wonton or tortilla chips on the side for a delightful crunch.

Additional Tips:

  • For the best flavor, make sure all ingredients are fresh and high quality, particularly the sushi-grade tuna.
  • If you prefer a bit of heat, you can add finely chopped fresh chili or a dash of Sriracha to the dressing.
  • For added texture, you can incorporate finely diced mango or radish.
